Nos étudiants Mi’gmaw du programme de protection de la faune – Geligatmu’g Gmitginu de Listuguj ont participé cette semaine à un événement historique!
Ils ont assisté à un cercle de partage avec les agents fédéraux de Pêches et Océans Canada (DFO) portant sur les perspectives Mi’gmaw de Listuguj sur la Vérité et la Réconciliation. Organisée par la communauté des Premières Nations de Listuguj dans le cadre de notre cours Rôles et responsabilités légales donné par notre enseignant Alain Forest, cette rencontre est considérée par tous les participants comme un événement important. 42 ans après l’épreuve traumatisante de « la guerre du saumon » qui a marqué durablement la communauté et les relations qui ont suivi avec le ministère des Pêches et Océans, entre autres au niveau de la pêche au homard, cette rencontre de partage constitue un bon point de départ pour l’amélioration des relations.
Bien qu’il soit nécessaire de poursuivre la guérison, en participant à cet événement, nous prenons conscience que nous contribuons à une innovation sociale au cadre légal en matière de justice.
Nous sommes fiers de faire partie de cette grande aventure.

Our Mi’gmaw students from the Wildlife Program – Geligatmu’g Gmitginu in Listuguj participated in a historic event this week!
They attended a sharing circle with federal Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) officers on Listuguj Mi’gmaw perspectives on Truth and Reconciliation. Organized by the Listuguj First Nations community as part of our Legal Roles and Responsibilities course taught by our teacher Alain Forest, this meeting was considered by all participants as an important event. 42 years after the traumatic ordeal of the « salmon war » which left a lasting impression on the community and the subsequent relations with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, including the lobster fishery, this sharing meeting constitutes a good starting point for improving relations.
While further healing is needed, by participating in this event we are aware that we are contributing to a social innovation to the legal framework for justice.
We are proud to be part of this great adventure.
